I've manually installed the Orenmode modules and theme, but I don't know how to get it to look like the advertised demo on Pantheon.io

I'm trying to get the demo mode installed on a local host, then migrate it to Pantheon.io
When I try to add the necessary folders (e.g. modules, themes, profiles) to a Drupal site and launch using Orenmode Bag profile via Dev Desktop, I get this message in the "Configure Site" stage: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (61)
When I try to install the profiles on an existing Drupal site with "md_orenmode_install_profile.zip" via "Install Theme" I get this message: Automatic updating of Drupal core is not supported. See the upgrade guide for information on how to update Drupal core manually.
I'm using Drupal 7.51, which to my knowledge is the latest version.
