how to display taxonomy term categories only on homepage below slider

how can i manipulate the homepage to do like what i have attached? basically show only categories and their coresponding background images and not products on the homepage? i have attached a mockup. i have tried this but having trouble with applying responsive classes to the images and creating rows. assume the screenshot is a screenshot after scrolling down past the slider to view the product.

Hi,

Please go to admin/structure/views/view/product_demo/edit/block, remove or exclude from display field Global: View.

Then you need to override template to display site as you would like.
