I tried to upload a custom .mp4 file. But it is not showing up.

Which slider did you mention? If it is a MD slider so we can not upload a video (http://megadrupal.com/comment/7532#comment-7532).
Sorry to reply this late. I was using the same slider that you provided. But as per requirement now I have added a block with html's video element.
