I've upgraded current imce from 8.x-1.5 to 8.x-1.6 but without succes.

PS. If you know an alternative route using Media module instead of imce for browsing slide image, let me know please.

Since NikaDevs posted this on my behalf for the mentioned issue in one of his themes, I will give an update on the current status with imce on my site.
Appartly this issue was related to local vagrant environment preventing me to open the file browser somehow. It works on my public environment.
But I raised this issue on drupal.org, because I don't want my site content manager role to get full access to public:// via /imce
