The Mega Slider documentation shows how I can show a Mega Slider as a block in a region. But I would like to insert a Mega Slider within the HTML in the body of a page. Is that possible? If so, how?

Regarding your question, it is impossible to insert Mega Slider into HTML in the body of the site because each slide is created under the block form.
