What are the instructions for installing this module? When trying to install I get the error message not a valid plugin because it is missing an .info file.

You could find documentation of mega slider in your downloaded package. And about "missing an .info file" problem, please try with version of mega slider in your account page (http://megadrupal.com/user/udimorg) and check if it works.
