When installing the md_phoenix-7.x-3.1 zip-file, I get this error message from Drupal: md_phoenix-7.x-3.1.zip does not contain any .info.yml files.
How do I solve this?

Please extract file zip before install theme.

if I extract the file, I can't upload it into the Drupal 'new theme install'...
You could upload by 2 following ways:
+ Extract (unzip) in local computer then upload to server by FTP
+ Upload file .zip to your server, then please use Uncompress in server to extract file.
