our corporate site is using advagg: https://www.drupal.org/project/advagg
This breaks the editor, I am trying to find an exception rule but do you know of any way to resolve it?

Module https://www.drupal.org/project/advagg changes order of Js files leading to some function jQuery will be called before loading library causing errors. You can send us your site admin account and FTP account by private comment, we will check for you.
Hi there, thanks for your quick answer. unfortunately, this site is a developer/beanstalk site run with git and controlled by the supplier. I therefore think it will be difficult to fix at this stage. Can you provide me with a way how to fix it that I can pass onto the supplier? or maybe even fix myself in the md slider files before git deployment?

If you would like to use https://www.drupal.org/project/advagg so please read api module advagg carefully and make sure loading file js order of module md_slider ( you can take a look at file md_slider/includes/md_slider.admin.inc, lines from 521 to 538).
Also please make sure site loads all attached js files need after attached libraries. And attach js files of md_slider need to be in right order as code.
